STUDY to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, RIGHTLY DIVIDING THE WORD OF TRUTH. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, THE LORD KNOWETH THEM THAT ARE HIS. And, LET EVERY ONE THAT NAMETH THE NAME OF CHRIST DEPART FROM INIQUITY. 2 Timothy 2:15-17,19. In order to get good at something, you must study that something to get good at it. You can research, read books, listen to experts, read reports from people who have gone before you, and then study some more, all to become very knowledgeable, very expert, at your chosen subject. To understand Christ, you must study His Words and understand the context He said, and meant, them in. Only Christ's words will teach you about Christ's words. Reading someone else's opinion about his understanding of what he thinks someone else said, amounts to nothing. Only the Holy Spirit can open one's eyes to this understanding because He was there with Christ every time Christ spoke, He knows every Word and His meaning to His Word. Without the Holy Spirit, all we have is Law with no grace. The Words of Christ, WITH NO UNDERSTANDING FROM THE HOLY SPIRIT, will bring conviction, condemnation, and death. I'll illustrate. "If any man come to me, AND HATE NOT his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, HE CANNOT BE MY DISCIPLE. Luke 14:26. The truth of this verse, without the teaching of the Holy Spirit, allows me to start, "The church of Hate Everything, and go to heaven". Yes, in its proper context, this is absurd. We need to study His Word WITH the Holy Spirit in order to have a complete understanding of God's Word. As the Holy Spirit teaches us all things, we will, Be Blessed.
