Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen. 1 John 5:21. "Idol; An idol worship: An image used as an object of worship. A false god. One that is adored, often blindly or excessively". To discuss Idol Worship IN THE AMERICAN CHURCH is to take the bull by the horns, and usually end up being gored to death. Yet, idol worship in the church and with "Christians" is Truly the golden calf almost no one wants to talk about. For me to say "this thing" or "that practice" is of idol worship, is almost trying to commit spiritual suicide. I'll give 2 illustrations for you to think about. First, shortly after the collapse of the 9-11 towers, 2 pieces of steel, (2 "I" beam pieces), came into town on a truck with great fanfare and ceremony, complete with New York city firefighters, to be placed on 2 special stands in a fenced in area, and were described as, and I quote, "This Sacred Steel..." The second illustration is, you go to church listening to the preacher go on about something for an hour, occasionally checking your watch, anxiously wanting to head out the door, after quickly exchanging a few pleasantries, to go home and watch the Big Game for three and a half hours. ("No, I don't bow down to pieces of steel", "Hey, I'm just relaxing after a hard week"). No one really wants to even consider something they do might be considered "idol worship". So let's look at this from a different angle. "Little children, KEEP YOURSELVES FROM IDOLS. Amen". 1 John 5:21. Will you dare ask The Lord what HIS definition of Idol Worship is, and how it might be a part of YOUR life? Seriously, would you take even an hour to study the Biblical examples of idol worship and what the Lord has to day about it? Only with A True Heart Attitude to Hear from the Lord, will you, hear from the Lord. "Idol worship" is a heart attitude, and only the Lord Knows our Heart. Outside of that, it's just legalism and "Don't Judge Me" thinking. Study, Judge yourself, and, Be Blessed.
