I wrote unto the church: but DIOTREPHES, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, RECEIVETH US NOT. Wherefore, if I come, I WILL REMEMBER HIS DEEDS which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church. Beloved, FOLLOW NOT THAT WHICH IS EVIL, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but HE THAT DOETH EVIL HATH NOT SEEN GOD. 3 John 1:9-11. So, what's with the words "I will remember his deeds which he doeth", because it sure sounds like there will be some kind of "payback" for this bad attitude of Diotrephes? Aren't we supposed to love everyone, you know, "forgive and forget"? Yes, we are to Forgive all who come against us, and yes, we are to Trust the Lord to deal with these people in His Way and in His Time. He doesn't need our help in His dealings with a problem. BUT WE ARE to continually be in Prayer and Fellowship with the Lord all day long. When you find a "Diotrephes" in your life, PRAY FOR HIM, INTERCEDE FOR HIM, unless he changes, he's going to die and end up in Hell! No Lover of Christ would wish that on anybody. There are rules and procedures built into the church for dealing with these people, and the first one is to Love them with the Love of Christ. If WE don't do that, who will? No matter how "bad" they may seem, don't give up on them, they just may be another "Saul /Paul" in the making. Isn't it better to ask Christ to help them bend and bow in Repentance at His Feet, instead of having the Full Weight of Christ fall on them and grind them to powder? We don't know a man's heart, but Christ does, and His Mercy and Grace is far greater than anything we can come up with. Know Christ, and know that when He gives us an assignment, He WILL see it through to the end. Christ IS Victorious, and "Diotrephes" WILL step aside, one Way, or the other.  Pray for His Mercy, and, Be Blessed.
