Then I (Solomon) commended mirth (happiness and joy), because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry: for that shall abide with him of his labour the days of his life, WHICH GOD GIVETH HIM under the sun. Ecclesiastes 8:15. King Solomon recognized that for a Believer, eating and drinking were basic aspects of life necessary to keep the physical body going. Joy comes from the understanding that the Lord is the supplier of all things, including foods and drinks, and with a Joyful attitude of Thanksgiving to the Lord for His Provisions, comes that Joy. With the basic needs of the body taken care of, the Believer will continue on seeking lost souls to be Saved as the Holy Spirit directs. That's the Life of the Christian. But for the unbeliever, eating and drinking are THE reasons for life, and that's all it's ever going to amount to. "Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die", is as good as it will ever get, if there is even any good in that. "And (Jesus) spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry". Luke 12:16-19. This guy's whole life was all about accumulating enough stuff so he could sit back and do nothing for the rest of his life. "Stuff" was all he wanted, he had no room or Thanksgiving for the Lord. He didn't need the Lord because HE had worked to get all HIS stuff, no thanks to God. By HIS hand HE was a rich man, and all HIS stuff was HIS reason for "joy". To the Believer, food is a basic need, Thank You Lord for your Provisions. To the lost man, food is acquired BY HIS OWN HAND. Which way will you, Be Blessed?
